Basuki Attended Vesak Celebration at Ekayana Arama Temple

Together with thousands of Buddhists from all around Jakarta, Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama attended the Holy Tri Vesak celebration at Ekayana Arama Temple, West Jakarta, Thursday (5/15). In that occasion, he delivered messages about healthy life, consciousness, order, and lovie based on Buddha’s teachings.

“Willing to abandon self-needs for many people’s needs. Self-sacrifice is the most important,” he stated.

According to Basuki, nowadays many people are far from those exemplary. For example, many people in the capital city still throw trashes carelessly. If only one resident willing to pick up one trash, cleanliness problems in Jakarta can be resolved.

Vesak, Buddhists Pray for City’s Development

“About the trash, one people can carry one trash. Imagine if it’s one million people. Trash problems could be handled,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, Head of Ekayana Arama Temple, Bhante Aryamaitri Mahasthavira, said that this year’s Vesak theme is about strategic meanings that could inspire the hearts of Buddhists to more implement Buddha’s teachings which are very relevant with actual condition and today’s life that is very dynamic.

“Substantially, there is a deep message that interactions between people, the nature, and every creature is a unity that supports each other based on mindfulness foundation. Don’t just understand Buddha’s teachings that are full of love, but implement them in every life dimension,” he uttered.

The peak of Holy Tri Vesak celebration was started at 02:13:27 AM. At that moment, Buddhists in Ekayana Arama Temple held joint meditation and contemplation, and then continued with Pindatapa, Pujabakti, and Wisudhi ceremonies. For Pindatapa, it is a tradition of worshipers collecting money and food to the monks who walk around the worshipers.
